There has been a noticeable decline in requests for the iPad this week as Graham has been wanting to play school with me. He wants to play school with Eleanor and "teach" her, but she's really not having that at all.
While I was fixing dinner the other night, Graham was writing and telling me about some words...
Another night he started with the word "sat" and proceeded to write a list of other "at" words below it...cat, hat, flat, bat....I love it!
He sat down after dinner and told me that we would be talking about houses. He drew a house on the white board, then asked me "What kinds of things would you find in a house?" As I attempted to give suggestions, he reminded me that I needed to raise my hand.
Each time I suggested something that you would find in a house he repeated it and told me it was a great idea or good thinking, then he drew a picture of my suggestion on the board. The following night we talked about skyscrapers and what you might find in there. That night he also had me do some "paperwork" - I was to write and illustrate a story (I wrote about Kenny going fishing - my illustration skills are very limited!) Graham also implemented the same reward system of "Paws-itives" that they have at his school - I earned a bunch :)
LOVE that he's enjoying school so much that it's showing up in his play, and I really love seeing all of the things he's learning at school. He's reading more and more all of the time and we've started doing a little bit of "homework" each night to get him in the habit of doing the work...making it part of our routine. Homework choices right now include the writing page that comes home once a week, reading from the readers that come home with him, or working on the IXL math website (I think that one is his favorite). Graham is very excited to be learning how to read, and he is always amazing us with the math concepts he knows and understands (that's sooo not from me!)
