Much of my life is full of work obligations and of course my "mom" work :) While I am incredibly grateful for my job and I wouldnl't trade being a mom for anything, I still find a need to carve out some time that is just for me.
Saturday was one of those days were I felt a great balance between what I had to do and what I wanted to do, and I was able to be a little selfish with my time. The kids were with Wil Friday night so I woke up slowly. I was reading and dozing on and off before getting out of bed - doesn't sound like much, but that alone feels like a luxury. There was sunshine on Saturday morning, and while it was still a little chilly, it was a perfect morning for a bike ride. I rode on the path along the river and it was gorgeous. I wish every day could start with a nice long ride along the river like that. After a hot shower I went to a late breakfast with my friend Matt - I love breakfast! I usually read through the Eugene Weekly while we wait for our order and we chat about the opinion letters and what's going on in the week ahead (FYI - this week is "beer week" in Eugene). After breakfast we did a little shopping before I headed home, and once home I did a little more shopping. I walked in the sun to the 2nd hand children's store on River Road - yay for more time outside! I found lots of goodies on the $1 racks and had fun browsing through the rest of the store. Once home again I called to chat with mom and dad (sometimes it's nice to be able to talk with them without two little people begging to say "hi" in the background!). I opened up all of the windows and did a load of laundry, and while the sun was still shining I set up a lounge chair and read my book for a bit.
By the time the kids got home I was relaxed, recharged, and ready to be "mom" again.
