I decided it was finally time for Graham's first visit to the dentist, so I made an appointment to see Dr. Helen. They had a cancellation on Friday when I called, so we decided to jump on that and go right away. I picked him up from daycare and Wil met us there.
They were absolutely AMAZING with Graham. The hygienist told Graham that this was his appointment and he could choose whether or not he wanted to come back by himself or with mom and dad. He initially said he wanted to go alone, but I don't think he knew what he was agreeing to. As soon as she made a move to take him without us, he changed his tune :)
She spent all kinds of time showing Graham how everything worked and pretty much let him touch and work anything he wanted. He loved making the chair go up and down....
I had a little bit of a concern about something that I noticed on his gums, so Dr. Helen took a look at that and they even got an x-ray of it to look over
Graham was a little nervous about everything at first and kept asking if it was going to hurt. (mind you he asked the same questions when he was getting his hair cut the day before - he's all about being concerned about being hurt lately). He eventually opened up wide and let them do everything they needed to do. We realize we might be a bit biased, but we think he did a pretty awesome job :)
The hygienist wanted to polish the "sugar bugs" off his teeth so she showed him how the polishing tool worked. She let him choose who he wanted to try it out on....Graham chose daddy :)
And eventually he agreed that it could be his turn....
We were there for about an hour when it was all said and done. Graham got to pick out of the prize box and also went home with a new Lightning McQueen toothbrush and Toy Story floss (they want me to floss my 3-year-old's teeth!) They also gave us a timer to make sure we were brushing long enough.
We are VERY HAPPY with Dr. Helen's office. From the phone call to make the appointment right through finding us batteries to put in the toy he chose from the treasure box....it was a fantastic experience for us all. I made myself an appointment with Dr. Helen for next week and I let her know she'd probably have more trouble with me than she did with Graham....she assures me that if I'm good I'll get to pick from the prize box too :)
